The Highway Chicken

My husband has a big generous heart, with a soft spot for animals. He was driving along one day and saw a chicken beside the road that had fallen off a chicken truck. The chicken was still alive but looked to be in bad shape. My husband said to himself, if that chicken is still there I’ll pick it up on my way back thru. And sure enough, that chicken was still there when he finished his errand and headed back home. He stopped, got out and said to the chicken, “I’m not chasing you!” And the chicken just walked over and sat down at his feet. The poor thing knew that it needed help.
We live on a farm. So, rescuing a chicken in need did not cause too many problems. My husband picked up the chicken and brought it home. He made a place for it in the barn with plenty of food and water. The poor chicken’s mouth could not even close. It was a white chicken and bruises could be seen thru its feathers. It was a sad thing to behold. I had my doubts that the poor bird would survive. But, my husband said it for sure would not have lived if he had left it there on the highway.
For a few days, the chicken just stood in its water pan. It would lean over and just scoop some water in its mouth to drink. Then after a while, it began to eat a little. And finally, it got well enough to get out of the barn and go hang out with the other chickens. And that chicken happily lived out its remaining days on the farm.
God had mercy on the poor suffering chicken. He sent His servant, my husband, to help the poor bird and rescue it from certain death. How much more does He care for us? The Bible says that even the hairs of our head are numbered. And to us He sent His only begotten Son to die and save us from everlasting death.
Luke 12:7 KJV
But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
