The Treasure Chest

When I was in grade school, we began class each and every morning with a prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. And once a week the Bible ladies would come and share a Bible story with us. Yes brothers and sisters, this was in public school back in the day! And no, I’m not 100 years old!! Times have definitely changed.

Anyway, the Bible ladies would pass out Bible verses for the children to memorize for the following week. If you memorized the verses you could get a prize out of the treasure chest. The more verses you memorized the more prizes you could get.

There was a little boy in my class named James. James always learned more Bible verses than anyone else. I was always a bit jealous of him because he got a lot of prizes out of the treasure chest.

But the fact is, that the trinkets in the treasure chest were nothing. The real treasure James was receiving was committing God’s Word to memory and sowing the Word in his heart.

Luke 21:33 Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away.
