I love lighthouses! I don’t know why. I’ve never lived near one or even been inside one. Maybe, it’s the thought of what they stand for. It is a light that gives hope and shines across the dark abyss. Lighthouses guide the weary traveler to safety and home.

We sang the old hymn in Church the other day, “Let the Lower Lights Be Burning”. And the words of the song really touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes. “Brightly beams our Father’s mercy, from His lighthouse…but to us He gives the keeping of the lights along the shore…trim your feeble lamp…some poor sailor…trying now to make the harbor in the darkness may be lost. Let the lower lights be burning! Send a beam across the wave! Some poor fainting struggling seaman, you may rescue you may save.” Powerful words!!

God is the Light. And God’s children are points of that Light for the world. We are like little lighthouses helping to guide others out of the hopeless darkness of the world and into the safety of God’s harbor.

Philippians 2:15 (KJV) That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;
