When my grandma and grandpa were younger they raised pigs. And my grandma would always bring the smallest little pig inside the house to care for it. I don’t know if the baby pig was really in danger of not getting enough to eat or if grandma just enjoyed caring for the little runt. But, either way I have many memories of going to grandma and grandpa’s and there being a baby pig in the house.
They heated with wood. And the little pig would be wrapped in a blanket lying in a box by the wood stove. Grandma would care for it and nurture the baby pig until it was big enough to eat other things besides milk. So, in essence the little runt was taken better care of than the bigger pigs that were allowed to stay with their mother in the barn. The little pig had plenty to eat, a nice warm place to sleep and lots and lots of love.
This story reminds me of the references in the Bible when it talks about the last being first. We don’t need to worry about being the biggest, the best, the prettiest or the smartest. We only need to focus on being one of God’s children. And He will take care of the rest.
Luke 13:30 KJV- And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.
