Most kids love story time and when my sister and I were little we were no exception. We’d snuggle up to our momma, who is a beautiful and intelligent person, and she would read to us. Our dad and his cousin walked in one day when she was reading to us. And she was reading a story about TV Coon. They started laughing and asked, “What in the world is TV Coon?” Mom got to looking and the story was really about a tycoon. But the bottom of the “y” on the first page was missing. So, that was how the story about a tycoon became the story of TV Coon!!
Another time that same cousin’s wife was reading us a story about Deputy Dang, which was really a story about Deputy Dawg. But once she started it as Deputy Dang, that’s what she continued to call it throughout the book. How funny!
Dad and his cousin used to laugh and good naturedly tease their wives about TV Coon and Deputy Dang. They would say, “It’s a wonder these kids ever learned to read!”
It is funny how our first impressions and ideas stick with us. Even at times when it doesn’t sound right or feel right we stick with our original opinion. When it comes to the Bible, we need to make sure that we are diligent about checking and rechecking so that no omissions or changes are ever made to God’s Word.
Proverbs 30:5-6 (KJV) Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
