The Innocent

In the South, it is pretty common for family and friends to say to little kids, “Why don’t you come and go home with me?” They say this as they are leaving after a visit and they usually don’t mean it. Also most little kids say, “No!” But when my youngest son was little his response was always, “Let me go get my shoes!” He would be absolutely heartbroken when he got back with his shoes and the visitor was gone. And he would say, “Why did they leave me? Why would they do that?”
When he was just a little guy, I took him to the park one day. After we walked across the street, he broke free from me holding his hand. Then, he hurried down the stairs and ran down the sidewalk toward the playground in his little flip flops. He called to the other kids the whole way, “Hey, kids I’m here! I’m here kids!” Bless his heart! He thought that every kid there was just waiting to play with him.
We think we have so much to teach our kids. But, there is also so much that we can learn from our little ones. Their honesty and innocence is what we should strive for as little lambs of God.
Matthew 18:3-4 (KJV) And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. 4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
