Riches Greater Than Money

As we were driving to Church one Sunday morning, we were noticing and appreciating all of the beautiful wild flowers in the fields and along the roadside. The Queen Anne’s Lace, Butterfly Bush, Black-eyed Susans, Daisies and Periwinkles, just to name a few, were all just gorgeous.
It brought back fond memories of my grandma. She loved to go for walks along the country road where she lived. When we went with her, she would tell us the names of the wild flowers. And we would pick a bouquet to brighten up the house. She bought us straw hats to wear when we were outside so we wouldn’t “freckle”.
After I got married, my mother-in-law had the opportunity to become acquainted with my grandma. They took an instant liking to each other and loved to visit at family gatherings. When grandma became ill and needed to go to the nursing home, my mother-in-law and I were talking about what might brighten her stay. I mentioned to her how grandma loved wild flowers. And my mother-in-law went and picked a huge bouquet of wild flowers for grandma. It was beautiful and grandma loved it. Her face just lit up!
That thoughtful gesture of kindness cheered grandma and lifted her spirit more than just about anything could have. It was not only the awesome flowers, which brought back wonderful memories for her. But, it was also because the flowers came from a cherished friend. And that meant the world to grandma.
Proverbs 18:24 KJV- A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother.
