The Roots of Sin

Have you ever considered how sin is able to creep into your life? It often starts small as just a simple thought in your mind. Then, as you entertain that thought the sin becomes stronger and establishes roots until it is firmly planted. If you don’t tell it to leave and you continue to entertain it, then the sin gains power over you. And you give it the right to stay. You think to yourself, I know this doesn’t feel righteous. But I’m not hurting anyone. It’s just a thought, right?

Then, as the sin inside you becomes more and more established it works its way outward. No longer content with just harming you, it seeks to destroy those around you as well. It speaks with your voice and takes action using your body. It spreads to those you care about and affects your relationships. And if it is not stopped, the sin will take you down that broad path that leads to everlasting destruction and death.

If something doesn’t feel right, then it probably isn’t. Rebuke these things in the name of Jesus Christ and send them packing before they ever have a chance to settle in. And learn that even a thought can be harmful to you and can dishonor God. Ask yourself with each thought and action, “Does this honor God?” If the answer is “no”, then the decision is an easy one. Don’t do it! Fill your mind and your heart with the Word of the Lord and there won’t be room inside for anything else!!!

1 John 1:8 (KJV) If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

Romans 7:20 (KJV) Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

Romans 6:23 (KJV) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Hebrews 10:26 (KJV) For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
