I have gotten into a routine of fixing bread and butter for our wiener dogs every morning. This is just a little treat for them and they have come to expect it. They bark at me or whine if it’s time for their bread and butter and I haven’t fixed it yet. I know I spoil them a little bit! But I’ve noticed a couple of interesting things about the puppies’ morning snack. One may be a story for later. :) But the other one hurts my feelings a little. We sit down and I pinch off little bites for them. When the bread and butter is gone, I tell them “that’s all!” And almost every time they just turn and walk away! Now, I’d like to pet them a little and talk to them for a minute. But they leave me just as soon as their treat is gone. And I’d like to know, what’s up with that?!!
When I looked at this from a spiritual view point, I think we often act like the puppies do. We demand that God provide not only our necessities but also our “treats”. Then instead of receiving them with a thankful heart, we come to expect it. We walk away and don’t even give Him the love and appreciation that He deserves. Please forgive me Lord Jesus, I did this just today. I prayed for something and even though the prayer was answered in a good way. It didn’t go quite the way I had imagined. So, I was hesitant to be thankful...I’m definitely not proud of that one.
We’ve set aside a day to be thankful. And even though we should be thankful every day, the world is watching what we do and the example we present on Thanksgiving Day. So, let’s not be hasty to rush thru our meal to watch football or start Christmas shopping. Let’s be thankful, enjoy the company of our family and soak in the bountiful blessings the Lord provides that are everywhere!!
I’m setting a place of honor at our Thanksgiving table for the Lord Jesus. I’m not doing it because it is required of me. I’m doing it as a physical affirmation that the Lord is part of our family. And that He is always welcome at our table, in our home and in our hearts. And it is to Him that we give the glory and the honor and the praise for all the blessings in our lives! Amen!!!
Happy Thanksgiving to you all! And have a very blessed day!
