Red Glasses

The building where I work was built in the1960s. So, there are relics from the past everywhere. And over the years many people have come and gone thru the doors of this building. There is a row of clip boards along the back wall just inside the rear entrance. Attached to one of the old clip boards is a pair of red reading glasses. Now I know that these readers have been in that same place for many years. The person that they belonged to has long since moved on. But when I came in the door this morning, the glasses were brought to my attention with the thought that they had been “left behind so others can see.” Interesting, huh?

What are we leaving behind so others can see? What examples are we setting for others to follow? What bits and pieces have we strewn along the path, like Hansel and Gretel, so others can find their way home? You see, it’s not just what we do now…it’s also what we leave behind. We are God’s legacy. How are we helping future generations find their way home to God?

Proverbs 13:22 (KJV) A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

Psalms 103:17 (KJV) But the mercy of the LORD is from everlasting to everlasting upon them that fear him, and his righteousness unto children’s children;

Psalms 127:3 (KJV) Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

1 John 2:17 (KJV) And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever
