My husband bought his seed potatoes this week. And he is ready to plant them as soon as the weather is fit. It reminded me of the 4th of July when we all spent the morning helping him dig potatoes.
He had a big tater patch down by the creek that year. Both of our boys were home. And we thought if we all pitched in, we could help dad get it done fairly quickly. We were very close to being finished when we saw the snake. Now, Evan and I are terrified of snakes. And we decided very fast that we were done and headed to the truck. My husband caught the snake by the tail. And called out, “It’s just a little one!” as hand over hand he pulled that about four and a half foot snake out of a hole! We decided we would hate to see what he called a big snake!!
The Bible teaches us that God is the only one we should fear. Remember in the Book of Acts when the viper bit Paul on the hand? It was a “venomous beast” (I’m thinking not a small one!!!) and Paul shook it off in the fire and felt no harm. (Acts 28:3-5) The snake, however, was not so lucky. It was burned alive for biting a man of God on the hand.
Psalms 111:10 (KJV) The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever.
Proverbs 10:27 (KJV) The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.
Ecclesiastes 12:13 (KJV)Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
