Without Saying a Word

Sometimes the best witness you can be for God does not require any words at all.

At a recent event, I was very disappointed when no prayer of thanksgiving was offered over the buffet style meal. So, I got my food and sat down in an out of the way place. Before I began to eat, I closed my eyes and said a silent thankful prayer and asked the Lord to bless the food. Seems like a very simple thing, right? But when I opened my eyes, the person who had sat down across from me was watching my every move. Our eyes met and I felt a chill run down my spine. No words were spoken and no mention of it was made. But, I know that an example was set and it was important to that person. And along with this was the very sobering thought, what if I hadn’t prayed? That would have set the exact opposite example.

We never know who is watching us. Your witness for God is being measured just as much by what you do as by anything you say. And your actions can bring glory to God without even saying a word.

John 13:15-17 (KJV) For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

1 Peter 2:21 (KJV) For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:

Colossians 3:17 (KJV) And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
