What Will It Take?

Remember in the 17th chapter of the Book of 1 Kings when Elijah, who was a servant of God, was sent to a widow woman in Zarephath? The country was in a very severe drought. And God sent Elijah to this woman so that she could sustain him. But when Elijah got there, the woman told him that all she had to eat was a handful of meal and a little oil. She had planned to prepare this for herself and her son so they could eat this last meal and die. Elijah told the woman to fear not “For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth.” (1 Kings 17:14) So Elijah stayed there in the woman’s house and the Lord provided food for them for “many days” until the terrible drought was over. The Lord sustained them and kept them from dying. He saved their lives.

Later on, the woman’s son became very sick…so sick that he had “no breath left in him”. The woman said to Elijah,”What have I to do with thee, O thou man of God? art thou come unto me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?” (1 Kings 17:18) Elijah took the boy and prayed “let this child’s soul come into him again”. God heard his prayer and the child revived and lived. Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now by this I know that thou art a man of God, and that the word of the LORD in thy mouth is truth.”(1 Kings 17:24) I guess she totally forgot that the Lord had provided food and kept her and her household from starving to death for all those “many days” of the drought! It took the Lord bringing her son back to life before she would believe.

How many miracles and what will it take for you to believe that God cares for you??

1 Peter 5:7 (KJV) Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

John 1:10-13 (KJV) He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

John 3:12 (KJV) If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
