I really enjoy working in my flower beds. It gives me a lot of peace. And tending to pretty blooming flowers just makes me happy.

My flower beds, however, are small. And I have continually over the years made bad decisions about what to plant. Some of the flowers, even though they are pretty, have been very aggressive. The moon flowers, the trailing vinca, the tough oregano, the super marigolds, and the climbing morning glories all come to mind when I think of plants that will quickly take over and smother out all the other plants. They are hearty and will return year after year, even though you think you’ve pulled it all up and gotten the roots!!

And now it is the pink flowers. I pull them up but every year they return with a vengeance and the promise of pretty blooms. And they are beautiful at first. But other flowers growing next to them will not survive. And they leave a terrible mess when they are finished blooming.

Funny thing, my pink flowers remind me of sin. Sin quickly works its way in enticing you with something wonderful. Then, it takes over and tries to choke out every other good thing in your life. And even though it may look good for a while, it will eventually make a mess of things. You can try to get rid of it. But the next thing you know it’s back.

So, it’s best just to never let sin get started in your flower bed called life. And to only plant things there that will glorify the Lord! Happy planting in the Lord’s garden, my friends!!
