A Big Yellow Spot

On the way to Church is a house that they started painting at least five years ago. Its painting – trim and all- is complete except for one big yellow spot that faces the road. It isn’t in a hard to reach spot…they have painted above it and below it. This doesn’t seem to trouble anyone in my family except me. And over the years I have considered innumerable reasons why they have not finished painting their house. For instance – they ran out of paint and/or money. They got sick and couldn’t finish. There are toys in the yard, so maybe they wanted to spend more time with their children or grandchildren. They argued about the color and the person who was doing the painting told the others they could finish it themselves!! They had to leave the country. The list goes on and on…but I’m guessing now it will stay unfinished until the whole house is repainted. My husband tells me anytime I mention it, “Don’t worry about it, they like it that way!” Which as it turns out is very sound advice. In the grand scale of things, does it really matter if they have a big yellow spot on their house? It doesn’t…it doesn’t matter at all.

But thinking about it made me consider what am I leaving unfinished? I think most of us probably have an assortment of unfinished projects. They may not be facing the road where everyone can see them, like the big yellow spot. And they may not even be important. But think about it, what are the unfinished things in your life? Whether they are physical, emotional or spiritual, what important things have you left undone for so long that you don’t even notice them or think about them anymore? What are your big yellow spots?

2 Timothy 4:7-8 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.

Joshua 11:15 As the LORD commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD commanded Moses.
