Oh, How He Loves You!

The idea of different “love languages” was popular several years ago. The concept suggests that individuals respond differently to various ways that they are shown love. Some people want you to tell them that you love them. Others prefer that you do something for them, for instance wash the car, clean the house, or pick up something at the store. Some folks like to give and receive gifts. And still others prefer a physical demonstration of love like a hug or a pat on the head.

Even though I’m not sure that I buy into all of the love language ideas, I do see examples of this in my family. My husband definitely shows others that he cares for them by doing things for them. Among other things, he makes me coffee almost every morning. And he has my dinner ready at 5:00 pm on most days when I get home from work. My sister was a gift giver. And I have one kid that’s a hugger and another one that tells me he loves me. And I’ve learned that what they give is also what they respond to. My husband wants you to do something for him. My sister really enjoyed gifts; even the smallest ones brought her joy. My youngest child wants a hug and my oldest child needs to hear “I love you.”

I was thinking of this the other day and I realized that God shows us that He loves us in every way. He demonstrates His love for us in ways that all people can understand. God tells us that He loves us many times in His Word. He sends His servants to give us a physical hug when we need one. And God does things for us and gives us gifts of His love everyday!! Did you wake up to a beautiful sunrise this morning; hear a pretty bird sing or the laughter of your family? But the greatest gift of love that we have ever received was God’s Son, Jesus Christ, who lived as a man, who died on the cross for us and who offers us salvation. With this, God offers us a choice; will you accept His gift of love? And will you love Him in return?

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

John 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.
