There is a story in the Book of Acts about when the Apostle Paul was in bonds and brought before King Agrippa to have his case heard. King Agrippa and his wife Bernice entered into the place of hearing with “great pomp”. And after listening to what Paul had to say, King Agrippa said, “Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.”

Almost is defined as very nearly, not quite, just short. Almost in the case of King Agrippa, would be just short of life and accepting salvation. And in this case the final result could be eternal death. We don’t know for sure because after this story, King Agrippa is not mentioned again in the Bible. This may have been his only opportunity to accept Christ or he may have been given more chances. We just don’t know. Since it mentions that the King and his wife entered with “great pomp”, he may have found it difficult to humble himself before God. And the King may have found it difficult to admit that he was a sinner, in need of our Lord and Savior in his life. If this was King Agrippa’s only chance to come to the Lord, then “Almost” is a very, very sad story.

Don’t let “Almost” be your answer to the Lord’s call to come to Him. We never know how many opportunities we will have…we may only have one.

Acts 26:28 Then Agrippa said unto Paul, Almost thou persuadest me to be a Christian.

Hebrews 2:3 How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him;

Titus 2:11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men,

James 4:10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
