Lazarus and the Rich Man

Lazarus was a very poor and sick beggar, who lay at the gate of a very wealthy man, and desired to be fed with the crumbs from the rich man’s table. The rich man had everything that he wanted and lived a very lavish life while the dogs licked the sores on Lazarus. Then, both Lazarus and the rich man died. Lazarus went to rest in the comfort of Abraham’s bosom. And the rich man went to the pain and torment of hell. The rich man cried out to Abraham that he might send Lazarus with water to cool his tongue.
I think it is interesting that even in death the rich man sought to exercise his authority over Lazarus. It’s like he didn’t even realize that he no longer had any authority and was in a dire situation. Abraham told him that his request could not be done. Then, the rich man asked Abraham to send Lazarus to testify to his family “lest they also come into this place of torment.” He still wanted Lazarus to do his bidding. And Abraham told him, “They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.”
God is calling. He has provided a way for our salvation thru His Son, Jesus Christ. Are we so comfortable in our worldly life that we can’t hear his call? You’ve got to answer the Lord’s call now before it’s too late because He won’t be calling forever.
Isaiah 5: 14-16 Therefore hell hath enlarged herself, and opened her mouth without measure: and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth, shall descend into it. And the mean man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled: But the LORD of hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God that is holy shall be sanctified in righteousness.
Isaiah 55: 6-7 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
