Standing Together

In my flowerbed, most of the plants tend to grow together into a big mass as they mature. You can’t tell where one plant starts and another one ends. But I noticed there was one little plant that was growing off by its self. It had not yet reached the others and was all alone. This was interesting because even though it was planted at the same time as the others, it wasn’t as big. And it didn’t seem as strong as the others that had the support of the group.

People are like that as well. We are social and are meant to be around other people. As Christians, we need the edification and strength that comes from being with our brothers and sisters in Christ. Many times in the Bible we are told to exhort one another. Exhort by definition means to strongly encourage. We need each other. We need to encourage others and to receive encouragement. This journey is not an easy one. So, don’t try to take on this world by yourself.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 ¶ Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour. 10 For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up. 11 Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone? 12 And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.

2 Timothy 4:2 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.

Hebrews 3:13 But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
