The COVID Opportunity

We are living in a scary and dangerous time of uncertainty with the COVID 19 virus pandemic. In my lifetime, there have been wars, conflicts, as well as physical and economic disasters in the world. But for the most part I, like a lot of people, have been pretty sheltered from these things. These things have always been somewhere else. They have not been at my backdoor. I have never lived in a time like this where I have to be aware of the places I go, the things I touch and how closely I’m standing to someone else. Not to mention how long I wash my hands!!

As a Christian we should not be afraid. And we should remember that whatever happens, whatever comes our way that God is with us. Our life on this earth is short. It is a vapor. But we have the hope and the promise of eternal life. And we realize that this world is not our home. We know that our journey here is to lead us to that promise.
But for those who don’t know Jesus Christ our savior, who are scared and only have the hope of the world, these days can be terrifying. And when they are searching, it is an opportunity for God’s people to reach out and share the gospel with them. I think it’s so interesting that this pandemic has happened at a time when we have a wealth of technology. Even five years ago, I would not have been able to work from home like I have been doing for the past couple months. And we can share the gospel with others using this technology as well. There are so many different avenues that can be used to reach out to others without ever leaving your home such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram, emails, texting, phone calls, blogging, YouTube videos…the list goes on. The Bible says in Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” This is an opportunity for the light of God’s children to shine and to bring glory to the God of our promise.
Luke 10:2 Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
Mark 16:15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
